WWII Veterans Weekend

The 14th annual Waxahachie WWII Veterans Weekend honoring our country’s veterans was held Saturday, November 11, 2017 in downtown Waxahachie.  Click here for more information and HWI’s involvement and support.

Free Speaker Series

On Saturday, January 28, 2017, Robert Wedding, certified historic house specialist, spoke at the Sims Library Lyceum (upstairs) on the topic of “Restoration vs. Renovation”. Robert discussed challenges and opportunities working with historic homes. This was part of HWI’s free speaker series which offers public sessions from time to time on topics that relate to historic preservation.

Christmas Party

The annual Christmas party and membership meeting to elect the Board of Directors and present annual awards was held Sunday, December 11, 2016, from 6 – 8 PM at the home of Greg and Shan Nehib at 1025 W. Main in Waxahachie.

Members-Only History Hunt

Historic Waxahachie Inc. hosted its first “History Hunt” on Saturday, October 15th. This was a combined Educational Program and Social event.

The event consisted of a short stroll through a few sections of our beautiful Waxahachie City Cemetery to learn a little history of some of our former citizens.  The fun continued at the home of Bruce Rust and Jane Wedding at 210 S. Hawkins with a catered venue of food and drinks.

Hardy-Heck-Moore Survey Public Forum

On March 24, 2016, a public forum was held at the Waxahachie City Hall council chamber where representatives from Hardy-Heck-Moore discussed their work on an Historic Resource Survey Plan for the city of Waxahachie.  The meeting was open to the public and citizens were encouraged to attend in order to understand the importance of the survey to the community.  Click on the link below for further information.

Courthouse Tours

Each year HWI provides tours of the Ellis County Courthouse in downtown Waxahachie during the weekend of the annual Gingerbread Trail, which is held the first weekend in June.  Tours are also provided for large groups on an ad-hoc and prescheduled basis.  HWI members are encouraged to volunteer to be a part of these tours as docents.  Scripts containing information about the courthouse are provided to volunteers in order for them to acquaint guests with the facility as they tour the courthouse.

Visit to Wilson District in Dallas

On Sunday afternoon, May 18, 2014, HWI members and guests participated in a special HWI tour of the Wilson House on Swiss Ave. in Dallas, owned by Preservation Dallas, and a walking tour of the rest of that block.
