Congratulations to Michael Davis! Historic Waxahachie, Inc. awarded a $1,500.00 scholarship to Waxahachie High School Senior Michael Davis. Michael wrote an essay on History Through the Eyes of Baseball, in which he described the cultural significance and importance of Richards Park. Michael will be attending The University of Texas at Austin in the Fall.
Kathleen Bowen, HWI Scholarship Chair, stated that all of the applicants were extremely qualified and wrote wonderful essays on what aspect of Waxahachie’s history was most important to them. HWI is proud of all of the students who applied and proud that HWI is able to make this scholarship available to such a deserving graduate as Michael.
Thank you to the members who serve on the Scholarship Committee: Harold Barnard, Mark Bowen, Wanda Cain, Kirk Davis, Leanne Kelley, Nancy Post and Max Simpson.
By providing this scholarship, HWI hopes that the students will remember that history is more than just reading a book and remembering dates and names. It is about personal stories and how they affect us. HWI also hopes that these students will remember the rich history of Waxahachie that will always be an important part of their lives.
Congratulations to Michael and all the 2021 WISD graduates!
