What is Historic Waxahachie’s Saving Places Waxahachie contest?
- Saving Places Waxahachie encourages people to tell their own stories about historic places that have special meaning to them, places that are worth saving. A historic place is any place that is at least 50 years old.
Why should I write a story about a place?
- Share your story! Saving Places Waxahachie wants to preserve your personal stories about places that have been an important part of our history. Every place has a story, and we hope you will share your story about why a place has special meaning for you.
What kind of place could I choose?
- Waxahachie has so many wonderful historic places! A place that is special to you could be the school you went to, the house your grandparents lived in, the baseball field where you watch your child play, the café downtown where you meet your friends, or a store you love. All these places have stories! What’s yours?
How will the winners be chosen?
The judges, from Historic Waxahachie, will judge the stories we receive about special places and choose the top three that best illustrate the ways that historic places in Waxahachie:
- add meaning to our lives
- teach us lessons about what is important
- encourage us to understand our history better and
- help us appreciate the value of preserving these special places and their stories
We will also have a special category for the funniest story!
In May, as a part of National Preservation Month, Historic Waxahachie will have a special event to announce our list of places for 2023 Saving Places Waxahachie.
Please help Historic Waxahachie gather the stories of Waxahachie’s historic places by downloading and completing a nomination form and mailing or emailing it to Historic Waxahachie, Inc. at the address below OR by completing and submitting our online form from this website.
Nominations are due by Friday, May 5, 2023.
