Saving Places 2023 Contest

Historic Waxahachie, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of its 2023 Saving Places Waxahachie contest.  Winners were announced during a program at the Chautauqua Auditorium on Tuesday night, May 16, as part of National Preservation Month.  1st place went to Richard Todd for his story on the history of the Texas Theater which has recently been restored.  2nd place was awarded to Kathleen Bowen for her story about the Waxahachie City Cemetery and why it is one of her favorite places.  John Wedel took 3rd place for his remembrances of the 1938 Waxahachie High School gymnasium and the outstanding basketball program that thrived there under Coach J. W. Williams in the 1950s and 60s.

The contest, held each year, invites people to share a place in Waxahachie that has special historical meaning for them and to tell their stories about these places.  The results of this year’s contest are featured at the bottom of the HOME page.  In addition all the stories submitted from both 2022 and 2023 can be found on the Saving Places Waxahachie page.
